
The 14 day bird watching tour Kenya will take you through Tsavo East National Park, Amboseli National Park, Lake Magadi, Nairobi National Park, Lake Nakuru National Park, Lake Baringo, Lake Bogoria, Kitale, Kongelai Escarpment, Kakamega Forest and Dunga Beach in Kisumu
Day 1: Arrival at Nairobi Airport
Our office staff / driver will meet you at Nairobi Airport. Drive you to your hotel for check-in, waiting for bird watching in the next day. Overnight at Hillpark Hotel Meal Plan: Breakfast and Dinner.
Day 2: Nairobi – Tsavo East National Park (7 hours drive)
Wake up with the cup of coffee in the morning and then our bird watching guide will drive you to Tsavo East National Park which is the oldest and largest national park in Kenya located in the south eastern part of the country. On your arrival in the park have lunch getting prepared for your evening bird watching at the park. So you’re welcome to bird species like Superb Starling, White-headed Buffalo weaver, Red and Yellow Barbet, Fisher’s Sparrow-lark, and Chestnut-backed Sparrow-Lark, Red-bellied parrot, Rufous chatterer, Shelley’s starling, Slender-tailed nightjar, Somali bee-eater , Somali bunting, Somali ostrich, Taita falcon and Taita fiscal. Day 3: Bird watching at Tsavo East National Park
After breakfast, you will start the bird watching for the whole day at Tsavo East National Park. This will be the great moment to explore most of the bird species in this park and if you have not seen your favorite, please do not hesitate to ask your birding guide. So you are welcome to see bird species like African finfoot , Black-faced sandgrouse, Fischer’s starling, Golden pipit, Golden-breasted starling, Lesser kestrel, Martial eagle, Northern brownbul, Pangani longcla, d’Arnaud’s Barbet, Cardinal Woodpecker , African Pied Wagtail, White-browed Scrub Robin, and Spotted Morning Thrush. Day 4: Tsavo East National Park – Amboseli National Park (7 hours drive)
This morning you will wake up and have your usual breakfast and afterwards you will transfer to Amboseli National Park which is located in southern Kenya. It’s known for its large elephant herds and views of immense Mount Kilimanjaro, also dominated of wetlands with sulphur springs, lake, savannah and woodlands which act as a home of over 400 species of birds. Later in the evening you will start your bird watching at Amboseli National Park and expect to see various bird species among which they include; African swamphen, Common redshank, Dickinson’s kestrel, Eurasian thick-knee, Greater flamingo, Hartlaub’s bustard, Lesser flamingo, Long-toed lapwing, Imperial Eagle, White-throated Bee-eater, Little Bee- eater, African Hoopoe and European Roller. Day 5: Bird watching at Amboseli National Park
Have breakfast early in the morning then after start bird watching right away from the lodge for the whole day with your bird watching guide and also you can inform the guide your favorite species in advance so that he can spot it for you. Therefore you are welcome to the paradise of bird species among which they include Pangani longclaw, Rufous chatterer, Rufous-bellied heron, Spike-heeled lark, Steel-blue whydah, Taveta golden weaver, Von der Decken’s hornbill, Yellow-necked spurfowl, Northern Carmine Bee-eater, Broad-billed Roller, Lilac-breasted Roller, Rufous-crowned Roller, and Green Wood-hoopoe. Day 6: Amboseli National Park – Lake Magadi (6 hours drive)
This day you will drive to Lake Magadi which is located in the southern part of Kenya lying in a catchment of faulted volcanic rocks. It is known for its soda ash making it an amazing and unique spot for nature lovers, bird lovers and adventure camping visitors. After your lunch on arrival you will start bird watching at lake shores of Lake Magadi and this will give you an open chance to see various bird species among which they include Montane White-eye, Baglafecht’s Weaver, Ruppell’s Robin-chat, Streaky Seed-eater, Spotted Morning-thrush, Speckled Mousebird, Red-billed Firefinch, White-browed Scrub-robin, Lesser Flamingos, Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse, Greycapped Sociable-weaver. Day 7: Lake Magadi – 2 hours drive – Nairobi National Park – 2 hours drive -– 2 hours drive – Lake Nakuru National Park
Drive to Nairobi National Park for bird watching in the morning where you will see various bird species like Abyssinian thrush, Corncrake, Fischer’s lovebird, Grey crowned crane, Hartlaub’s bustard, Jackson’s widowbird, Kori bustard, Lappet-faced vulture, Lesser kestrel, Martial eagle, Pallid harrier, Secretary bird, Sharpe’s longclaw, Sooty falcon, White-bellied bustard and White-headed vulture. Then after you will proceed to Gatamaiyo Forest Nature Reserve for afternoon bird watching and you will also expect see bird’s species like Pied Avocet, Greater Painted-snipe, Spotted Thick-knee, African Wattled Lapwing, Chestnut-throated Apalis, Trumpeter Hornbill, Rufous-breasted Sparrowhawk, Fine-banded Woodpecker, White-bellied Tit, Tambourine Dove, Hartlaub’s Turaco, Abbot’s Starling and Lesser Sandplover. Day 8: Bird watching at Lake Nakuru National Park
After your early morning breakfast, you will start watching birds at the park which is one of the Rift Valley soda lakes and as a result the lake has abundance of algae used to attract many birds species like Greater Flamingo, Lesser Flamingo, White-headed Buffalo Weaver, Martial Eagle, Bateleur, European roller, Grey crowned crane, Great snipe, Greater spotted eagle, Grey-crested helmet-shrike, Lesser kestrel, Long-tailed widowbird, Maccoa duck, Montane white-eye, Northern puffback, Pallid harrier, Red-capped lark, Long-crested Eagle, African Spoonbill, Eurasian Spoonbill, Knob-billed Duck, Egyptian Goose, Rüppell’s vulture, Rüppell’s robin-chat, Schalow’s wheatear, Shining sunbird, Slender-billed greenbuls, Sooty falcon, Speke’s weaver, Western reef heron, White-fronted bee-eater, and White-headed vulture. Day 9: Lake Nakuru NP – Lake Baringo (3 hours drive)
With your early morning breakfast start your drive to Lake Baringo which is located on the northern Kenya after Lake Turkana. Later in the afternoon you will start watching birds at the shores of Lake Baringo where you will birds like Flycatchers, African Fish Eagle, Marabou Storks, Shikra, White-faced Scops Owl, Hemprich”s Hornbill, African Darter, African skimmer, Eurasian Spoonbill, Common Ostrich, Maccoa Duck, Helmeted Guineafowl, Superb Starling, Verreaux’s eagle, Spotted thick-knees, Lichtenstein’s Sandgrouses and Eleonora’s Falcon. Overnight at Soi Safari Lodge Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day 10: Lake Baringo – 2 hours drive – Lake Bogoria – 6 hours drive – Kitale
Bird watching at Lake Bogoria which is partly covered by forest. It is known for its saline and alkaline lake that lies in a volcanic region in the southern part of Lake Baringo and as a result it is a home to many bird species like Abyssinian scimitarbill, Black-headed lapwing, Black-necked grebe, Black-tailed godwit, Cape teal, D’Arnaud’s barbet, Egyptian vulture, Golden-backed weaver, Grosbeak canary and Lesser honey guide, Narina trogon, Greater painted-snipe, Rufous chatterer, Rufous-crowned roller, Southern pochard and Steel-blue whydah. Later in afternoon you will be driven to kitale which is an agricultural located in the north western part of Kenya. Overnight at Crane Hotel Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day 11: Bird watching at Kongelai Escarpment
Leave your accommodation in the morning and drive to Kongelai escarpment. It’s known for its cliffs and dry scrubs that offer an altitudinal transect which offers several special birds. On your arrival to this birding spot expect to be welcomed by different bird species among which they include Rock Pratincole, White-crested Turaco, Eastern Plantain-eater, Fan-tailed Ravin, Lesser Blue-eared Glossy-Starling, Bronze-tailed Glossy-Starling, Black-billed Turaco, Red-fronted Parrot, Tambourine Dove, Olive Pigeon, Eastern Bronze-naped Pigeon and Pink-backed Pelican, Woolly-necked Stork, African Green-Pigeon, Red-headed Lovebird, and White-bellied Go-away-bird. Day 12: Bird watching at Kakamega Forest
The total abundance of birdlife here is overwhelming and it is also a quiet haven for nature lovers, the perfect place to relax. Also the forest has many walking trails which support the bird watching, so you will see various bird species among which they include Lemon Dove, Black-and-White-casqued Hornbill, African Broadbill, Abyssinian Ground-Thrush, White-browed Crombec, Yellowbill, Grey-throated barbet, Hairy-breasted barbet, Jameson’s wattle-eye, Joyful greenbuls, Kakamega greenbu, African blue flycatcher, African broadbill, Crowned eagle, African emerald cuckoo, African goshawk, and Grey parrot. Day 13: Bird watching at Dunga Beach by boat
You will transfer to Dunga beach in the morning which is located on the South Eastern shores of Lake Victoria. The swamp is predominantly comprised of Papyrus which forms a distinctive habitat for pvarious special birds, including restricted range endemics such as the Papyrus Yellow Warbler, Papyrus Gonolek, African Jacan, Lesser Jacana, Baillon’s Crake, Goliath heron, Hadada Ibis, Pied Kingfisher, African Fish Eagle and Saddle-billed Stork. Day 14: Kisumu – Nairobi Airport / Out (6 hours drive)
Transfer to Nairobi airport after your breakfast for your flight back home.
